What is the basis of NHS membership?

Membership is open to Moniteau High School juniors and seniors who have a cumulative scholastic average of 3.75, as well as high standards of leadership, service, and character.  Each year a faculty  council selects students who meet these requirements.

Once chosen to be a member of NHS, the student must maintain a cumulative 3.75 grade point average, complete 25 hours of community service, and attend meetings held during the school year.

What is the selection process for NHS membership?

1. The advisor receives a list of current sophomores and juniors who have a cumulative 3.75 grade point average. This typically occurs toward the end of the school year.

2. The advisor reviews the list and posts the names of students eligible for membership - based solely on grade point average - in the guidance office.

3. Students on the list who are interested in becoming members complete a form showcasing their involvement in co-curricular activities, leadership positions, and community activities. Students must submit the form by a specific date, typically one week following the posting of eligible students.

4. Faculty Council members, five teachers selected annually by the advisor and/or principal, review all submitted forms. The advisor and principal do not participate in the selection.

5. Council members rate each student from 0-4 in the areas of leadership, character, and service.  Students who receive a score of 15 or higher in each of the three categories are selected for membership.

6. The advisor notifies students of the results. Each student who submitted a form receives a personalized letter. Students not selected for membership are notified of the specific area(s) the Faculty Council indicated needed improvement.
